Brief Description:

The Henry James Travel Fellowship, from the endowments of Jonathan Edwards College, supports Yale College students from any residential college carrying out internships outside of the US during the summer. Applications for this fellowship will be accepted via the CIPE Summer Fellowships Common Application.

Description:

The Henry James Travel Fellowship, from the endowments of Jonathan Edwards College, is one of the CIPE Summer Fellowships to support international internships. Applications for this fellowship will be accepted via the CIPE Summer Fellowships Common Application.

CIPE fellowships to support summer internships are intended to support students who give evidence that their educational experience would be significantly enhanced by an unpaid (or very low paid) internship outside of the continental United States.

Minimum internship duration: 8 weeks.  Internships of shorter duration will not be considered.  The proposed internship must be a full-time commitment and be the primary activity for the duration of the fellowship. 

Budget considerations: If you are going to receive payment or a stipend from your internship, you are expected to declare this in your budget and adjust your budget accordingly.

This fellowship is not intended to support an internship or program which has a participation fee or a program fee.

Please note that fellowship funds are meant to cover the costs of the proposed activity only.  Budgets should not include compensation for lost income or funding towards the Student Income Contribution.


Application Information:

Applications for this fellowship will be accepted via the CIPE Summer Fellowships Common Application.

Application materials will not be accepted via email or in person and late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.

The CIPE Summer Fellowships Common Application enables students to apply to multiple fellowships with the same proposal via one application portal, rather than several. You will only submit one set of application materials and request one letter of recommendation and one language evaluation (if required). This one set of materials will then be used as your application for each fellowship you indicate that you intend to apply to within the Common Application form.

Yale College students from any residential college may apply for this fellowship.

Restrictions to Use of Award:

To satisfy the minimum duration requirements of the fellowship to which you are applying, your project must your sole activity, conducted without interruption, for the duration of the experience.

All interested applicants must review the Yale University International Travel Policy. Projects in specific countries within approved regions may not be eligible for funding based on current UnitedHealthcareGlobal threat ratings, State Department Warnings, and the Yale University International Travel Policy.

Yale University policy requires that certain types of research projects involving human subjects be reviewed by an institutional review board (IRB) prior to the start of the study to ensure that the project meets University requirements and any applicable regulations. Students applying to fellowships to support activities in or near their home towns may not be eligible to receive funding for certain budget items (e.g. housing). Please ask a fellowships adviser for more information.

International student applicants should inform the Office of International Students and Scholars of their plans to ensure they will be in compliance with the terms of their visa.
