The Aakansha H. Pande Memorial Fellowship was established to support a summer public service project or internship in the field of public health. The fund has a strong preference for students pursuing opportunities relating to public health issues within marginalized or at-risk communities in the United States or abroad.

Description:

The Aakansha H. Pande Memorial Fellowship was established to support a summer public service project or internship in the field of public health. The fund has a strong preference for students pursuing opportunities relating to public health issues within marginalized or at-risk communities in the United States or abroad.

  • The project must take place the summer after the junior year.
  • One fellowship will be awarded per year.  
  • This fellowship will not support opportunities which have a program or participation fee.

Summer internship fellowships are intended to support students who give evidence that their educational experience would be significantly enhanced by a low  (earning $250 or less per week) or unpaid internship. 

Minimum duration: 8 weeks. Projects of shorter duration will not be considered. The proposed project must be a full-time commitment and be the primary activity for the duration of the fellowship.

Restrictions to Use of Award:

To satisfy the minimum duration requirements of the fellowship to which you are applying, your project must your sole activity, conducted without interruption, for the duration of the experience.

Please note that fellowship funds are meant to cover the costs of the proposed activity only. Yale fellowship funding is not available for reimbursement of lost wages or funding toward the Student Share of a financial aid award.

All interested applicants must review the Yale University International Travel Policy. Projects in specific countries within approved regions may not be eligible for funding based on current International SOS threat ratings, State Department Warnings, and the Yale University International Travel Policy.

Yale University policy requires that certain types of research projects involving human subjects be reviewed by an institutional review board (IRB) prior to the start of the study to ensure that the project meets University requirements and any applicable regulations. Students applying to fellowships to support activities in or near their home towns may not be eligible to receive funding for certain budget items (e.g. housing). Please ask a fellowships adviser for more information.

International student applicants should inform the Office of International Students and Scholars of their plans to ensure they will be in compliance with the terms of their visa.
