All applicants for the Canadian Rhodes must apply for endorsement, normally from their undergraduate institution. Yale endorsement is given by the Yale committee for the Rhodes Scholarship and coordinated by Fellowship Programs at CIPE.
For those who have started applications and requested three letters of recommendation (personally and via the "Marshall, Mitchell & Rhodes - Common Application for Endorsement" in the Yale Student Grants Database) by the preliminary deadline, 1pm on July 29, this year's campus application deadline is 1pm on August 12, 2024.
For details of how to apply for Yale's endorsement, see the Yale application timeline and forms, as well as the Database entry for the Marshall, Mitchell & Rhodes - Common Application for Endorsement (application for endorsement is not made through this "Rhodes" entry in Database, but may only be made through the "Common Application"). Applicants must also look carefully at the official Rhodes website and information.
Following the campus application process, endorsed candidates apply via the official online application system to the appropriate Rhodes Regional Committee (please read the official Rhodes memorandum carefully to determine the appropriate region). Selected finalists will be invited for personal interviews in late November or early December, and winners will be announced shortly thereafter.
Interested applicants, after doing some research of their own, are urged particularly to contact: Fellowship Programs at the Yale Center for International and Professional Experience - Meetings by appointment
"Proven intellectual and academic attainment of a high standard is the first quality required of applicants, but they will also be required to show integrity of character, sympathy for and protection of the weak, the ability to lead and the energy to use their talents to the full."Mr. Rhodes believed that the last of these qualities was best tested through participation and success in sports. Sporting prowess, however, is not essential if applicants demonstrate in other ways the physical vigour which will enable a Rhodes Scholar to make an effective contribution. Mr. Rhodes clearly expected this in expressing the hope that a Rhodes Scholar would come to 'esteem the performance of public duties as his highest aim.'"
For Canadian citizens only. Rhodes Scholarships cannot be deferred.
Information about Rhodes Scholarships offered in Canada and in other countries may be found via the official Rhodes website. Though Yale's endorsement is only required for the Rhodes in the US and Canada, the Fellowships office is also very glad to work with any Yale applicants for other Rhodes competitions and is likely to be able to help you connect with previous Yale applicants in your country (meetings by appointment).
