Brief Description:

Ph.D. students may apply for up to $800 to support travel to recognized professional domestic or international conferences and academic meetings as a presenter (session chair or discussant). The student's presentation must be on an international topic. The grant supplements funds that the student can receive from their home department or from the conference if it provides travel subsidies. The grant is available to Ph.D. students enrolled at Yale University in programs in the Humanities and the Social Sciences, and to select Ph.D. programs in the professional schools that could have a humanities or a social sciences dimension such as in Architecture, F&ES, Law, Drama, Public Health, and Nursing. Programs in the Biological Sciences (except F&ES, Public Health, and Nursing), Engineering & Applied Science, and the Physical Sciences are not eligible for the grant since they fall outside MacMillan Center’s mandates. Grants will be awarded on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted.

PhD students may apply for one Conference Travel Grant per cycle, either from the GSA or the MacMillan Center CTF, between September 1 and June 15. Students who have previously received a Conference Travel Grant may reapply in future years, but funding will only be provided if all first-time applicants have been accommodated. The application period closes each fiscal year on June 15 and reopens with new applications, typically on September 1. Students planning to present at a conference during the summer months (June, July, or August) must apply by June 15. If unable to meet this deadline, they should contact macmillan.fellowships@yale.edu. Students with conferences on or after September 1 should apply during the upcoming application cycle, not in the previous year's cycle.

Funds will be processed and disbursed as a reimbursement after the conference has concluded and all required documents have been submitted to the MacMillan Center. For detailed information, please refer to the reimbursement policies and procedures on our website. Please note that all documents must be submitted within 30 days of completing travel, and no reimbursements will be issued for submissions made after 45 days.
