Brief Description:

Summary of the Jewish Museum’s Internship Program:
The Jewish Museum (JM) proudly hosts interns from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds interested in gaining hands-on experience in one of the most prominent cultural institutions in New York City. Interns will have the opportunity to work on projects both in-person at the Museum and virtually.

Description:

We are looking for inspired individuals who would like to join the Jewish Museum curatorial team and develop their knowledge of exhibition work in a professional, supportive environ-ment. Under supervision, interns will assist with exhibition research, daily museum business, and administrative duties. While some interns will work exclusively with one curator, in most instances they will have an opportunity to work on multiple projects with two or more staff members.

In addition to working on exhibition projects in the Curatorial Department, Blanksteen In-terns will spend 5 of their weekly work hours participating in the Jewish Museum Summer Institute along with the entire summer intern cohort. Interns who participate in the program learn how museums and other cultural organizations are adapting to the current reality of institutional reckoning and social change and explore the future of museum work with a group of their peers. Sessions include meetings with Jewish Museum staff, including cura-tors, educators, and fundraisers, to hear about the vision for the Museum and discuss the work of producing and promoting exhibitions and programs. Guest speakers from beyond the Museum will include artists, writers, exhibition designers, and other innovators in the art world.
Note: This internship requires at least two onsite workdays per week (Tuesdays and Thurs-days). Each intern will have a dedicated workspace at the Museum. Remote work will be an option on other days.

Other duties and responsibilities may include:
• Conducting research online or in-person via offsite libraries (Columbia University, Frick Collection, New York Public Library, Watson Library at the Metropolitan Mu-seum of Art)
• Compiling and updating checklists, determining where information is missing or in-correct; communicating with the registrars and/or design teams
• Producing loan requests and incoming agreements, checking the status of loans, drafting appeals
• Developing presentations for other departments
• Writing and editing text for exhibition descriptions and labels
• Maintaining opening preview lists
• Other duties as assigned

The exhibitions and projects the students may engage with are listed at the website link below. Please specify which three (3) projects you would be the most interested in working on when submitting your application. While efforts will be made to assign students to their top first or second choice, placement will depend ultimately on the needs of the Curatorial Department.
