Women in Government: Advanced Policy Internship
Competition Type

The Women in Government: Extended Policy Internship is a $5,000 award to support an unpaid internship. Eligible for this fellowship are Yale College sophomores and juniors who previously received a Women in Government Fellowship. The award is not intended as a first opportunity to explore political careers as is the Women in Government Fellowship. Rather, it is intended for those who demonstrate serious interest in pursuing government policy-making and wish to expand upon a prior experience as a WIG fellow.

Proposed internships must include primary activities in which applicants engage in government and policy-making first-hand. On the Women in Government website you'll find tips and resources to help you choose qualifying internships. Internships may focus on the executive or legislative branches of government.

Candidates for this award must have a confirmed internship at the time of application, with start and end dates to be negotiated with the employer. The placement must reflect a minimum duration of 8 continuous weeks in length.  The internship must be a full-time commitment (at least 30 hours per week) and be the primary activity for the duration of the award.

2.  How have you demonstrated your deep desire to engage in policy-making work during this past academic year?  What courses have you taken and what activities have you pursued beyond the classroom which reflect your goals of engaging in government policy-making?

A budget which details projected costs of the unpaid internship and how the applicant plans to allocate the $5,000 award to cover anticipated expenses.
