Description:

The Coca-Cola World Fund at Yale provides summer travel grants for graduate and professional student projects involving applied research or internships overseas. Projects must focus clearly on the intersection of at least two of the following fields: international law, international business or management, or international affairs and public policy.

Goals:
The Coca-Cola World Fund at Yale University has the broad goal of bringing together the analytic resources of academic specialists and practitioners across established disciplinary lines to promote understanding of the international factors that play a decisive role in the conduct of private and public business. The Fund's more specific goal is to support scholarly endeavors that enhance collaboration among specialists in the fields of international law, the management of international business enterprises and government and non-government organizations, and international relations.

Student projects overseas:
The Coca-Cola World Fund at Yale will provide funding on a competitive basis for worthy field projects overseas, normally over the summer months. Such projects are expected to enable graduate and professional students in their first or second year of study to apply their classroom lessons to international, professional or policy problems in the immediate cultural and organizational context overseas. PROPOSALS MUST ADDRESS HOW THE PROJECT MEETS THE GOALS OF THE FUND ABOVE. THEY MUST ALSO EXPLICITLY INCORPORATE TWO OF THE THREE FIELDS OF INTEREST: INTERNATIONAL LAW, INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENT AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS/PUBLIC POLICY.
Preference will be given to projects that take an interdisciplinary approach, immerse the student in the language and culture of the foreign area, and strengthen the student's links with professionals and/or scholars in the target country. Typical projects might address issues such as "industrial privatization and environmental regulation in Poland," or "legal barriers to women's businesses in Senegal."

General guidelines:
Grants, in most instances, will be supplementary to resources provided from other sources. Fifteen awards are likely, each ranging from $500-$6,000. Applicants are expected to state what other sources of support they have and/or applied for. Awards may cover the recipient’s travel, living costs or special equipment costs excluding computer equipment. A written report of the experience will be submitted at the completion of the award. Recipients may be asked to offer a seminar or presentation of their field project results when they return to the Yale campus. Recipients will be designated "Coca-Cola World Fund Graduate Student Fellows." Any publication or public presentations resulting from their projects should acknowledge the support of the "Coca-Cola World Fund at Yale University," and a copy should be given to the MacMillan Center.

The awards selection committee will include representatives of the MacMillan Center, the Yale Law School, and the Yale School of Management. The Coca-Cola Foundation will include recipients in their scholarship database.

A written report of the fellowship experience, along with an expense report including all relevant receipts, must be submitted upon the completion of the project.

Project Proposal: a personal statement describing the proposed project and relating it to your degree program and career plans and the goals of the Coca-Cola World Fund at Yale (not to exceed two typewritten singe-space pages).
Budget should include your project expenses and sources of revenue including funds requested in this application; include approximate travel dates

Notifications of awards will be made by late April.

Special Eligibility Requirements:

Students are eligible to apply if they have completed their first, second, third, or fourth year of graduate or professional studies and will be continuing their studies on campus in the semester following the project.

Projects should be at least 6 weeks in duration.

Yale University policy requires that certain types of research projects involving human subjects be reviewed and approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) prior to the start of the study to ensure that the project meets University Policy and any other applicable regulations.
