Description:

The Council on Latin American and Iberian Studies announces its competition for Tinker Field Research Grants. The Field Research Grants are to be used for travel and field-related expenses for brief periods of pre-dissertation field research in Latin America. Grants are awarded to graduate students with little or no previous field experience with a priority for pre-dissertation research. Applications that focus on economic policy, governance, environmental policy, and public policy are strongly encouraged.

We are accepting virtual/online programs and research projects instead of travel for Summer 2024. Please be sure to have a virtual and/or online option as part of your proposal.

Notifications of awards will be made by late April.

Special Eligibility Requirements:

The Tinker Field Research Grants are awarded to graduate students with little or no previous field experience in Latin America with a priority for pre-dissertation research. Applications that focus on economic policy, governance, environmental policy, and public policy, are strongly encouraged.

Citizens of Latin American countries enrolled at Yale are eligible to receive awards to conduct research in their home countries provided they have no previous field research experience in that country.

In addition to a written report, recipients of the CLAIS Tinker Filed Research Grants will be expected to give a presentation for the Yale community.

Restrictions to Use of Award:

Awards can be expected to range between $500 and $3000 and are intended to help defray travel costs only.

Research in Puerto Rico, non-Spanish or non-Portuguese-speaking Latin America is not eligible for funding through this program.
