Description:

Since 1968, the Dwight Hall Summer Fellowship has offered the unique opportunity for students to dedicate themselves to creating real social change.  Specifically designed for those engaged students who need the time and resources to explore an idea for the greater good, students are employed full-time, minimally for eight weeks, and asked to execute an innovative project that attempts to fill a social need.

Dwight Hall at Yale is not prescriptive of issues or process, but students must show their projects are innovative in nature, have been sponsored by a community expert, and will have demonstrable results.

In addition to full-time work on their approved project, Summer Fellows engage in a series of community-building and boundary-expanding activities with their peers.  Weekly meetings revolve around food, conversation, training sessions, reflection, speakers, and collective learning.  Successful students will challenge their assumptions, build relationships within their issue’s community, find innovative solutions to social challenges, and develop a lifelong commitment to social change.

Preference is given to students working in New Haven, though exceptions can be made for extraordinary domestic cases.

Additional funding opportunities may be available, specifically for graduating seniors or for students receiving financial aid, through the YANA-Dwight Hall Fellowship.
