Brief Description:

The School of the Environment administers a range of fellowships for students intending to carry out projects and research in the USA and overseas. Please see full fellowships descriptions for details. 

Please plan ahead (at least 6 weeks) to complete submit your funding applications after reviewing fellowship descriptions. We highly encourage you to familiarize yourself with the sections required in the Student Grants Database portal, begin your funding applications early, and save your application as you make progress.

Please meet with your advisor / each of your recommenders (if recommendation letters are needed) at least 6-8 weeks ahead of the deadline to discuss your summer project, feasibility, relevance, and objectives. Also, please give them sufficient time (at least 3 weeks) to review your application and submit their approval.

Description:

The School of the Environment administers a range of fellowships for students intending to carry out projects and research in the USA and overseas. Please see the full fellowships descriptions for details. Specific fellowships have specific parameters, and we would encourage you to review these parameters well in advance so your applications are customized and relevant. 


1. YSE Summer Internship & Research Project Fund (CPD Globalization Fund)
Funding is provided to students to support their required (YSE006) summer internship/research project. These funds are administered through a YSE committee to provide financial support to one of the following: (i) independent research approved by a faculty adviser, or
(ii) an internship with organizational hosts that provide little or no funding.

2. Jubitz Family Endowment for Research Internships
Funding is provided to YSE students to support research in the study of forest ecosystem stewardship in Coastal (or West Side) Forests in Oregon, Washington, Southeastern Alaska, Western Canada and Siberia. Projects emphasizing the link between science and the legislative process shall be given special preference. 

3. Edward C. Armbrecht Jr. Family Fund
Funding is provided to YSE students to help them become leaders in sustainable forestry, natural resource management and environmental studies, with a non-binding preference for students with an interest in environmental and forest management leadership in West Virginia, or the Himalayas. Funding may also be provided for additional areas of interest. 

4. Williams Internships Fund
Funding is provided to YSE students to support students in their research with a preference for work with The Nature Conservancy and equivalent environmental NGOs.

5. Yale Wildlife and Wildlands Funds
Funding is provided to YSE students to support activities relating to wildlands in the United States, including remote and wilderness areas of the West and the backcountry of the East.
