Description:

The Millstone Fellowships in Public Service, administered by Yale College and the Institution for Social and Policy Studies, seeks students interested in exploring careers in public service. The fellowship provides funding for rising seniors to support their work during the summer in federal, state, or local government.

Students who participate in the fellowship will be provided financial support, structured mentoring, and networking events with Yale alumni and faculty before their summer internship experience as well as throughout the following academic year. Additional program support includes career information sessions, access to the Millstone Fellows network, and lectures featuring guest speakers with exemplar careers in government service.

Preference is given to applicants who provide a strong explanation for how spending a summer working in government will affect their potential career path. Applicants do not need to have secured their internship prior to submitting the fellowship application, but they must secure an internship before officially being named a Fellow. Applicants are to indicate where they have applied for an internship, or where they plan to apply, and when those applications were/will be submitted. Internships must be positions in government, but can be at the local, state, or federal level, in either the legislative, executive, or judicial branches. Finalists will be notified by January 20, 2024.

Minimum duration: 8 weeks

Amount of Fellowship: $7,000.
