The Yale College Public Service Research Grant (Research for a Better World) supports sophomores and juniors in all disciplines undertaking an independent, directed research project related to climate change. Proposals should comprise directed research studying solutions to important environmental problems.
Preference will be given to students who have collaborated closely with a Yale faculty member on the proposed project and who will pursue the research and/or objectives further after returning to campus. The fellowship will support research in the United States or abroad. Projects that assist under-resourced or disadvantaged communities will receive special consideration. Academic excellence is required.
Awards of $4000 are given; additionally, awards will be supplemented by up to $4000 to cover expenses students request in the CIPE Summer Fellowships Common Application budget.

The Yale College Public Service Research Grant (Research for a Better World) supports sophomores and juniors in all disciplines undertaking an independent, directed research project related to climate change. Proposals should comprise directed research studying solutions to important environmental problems.
The Fellowship seeks individuals with exceptional leadership, intelligence and creativity who wish to bring together their intellectual passions with their environmental concerns. Examples of research include preventing deforestation in rain forests to fight climate change, economic development programs for climate refugees, woman-owned businesses providing solar power in developing economies.
Preference will be given to students who have collaborated closely with a Yale faculty member on the proposed project and who will pursue the research and/or objectives further after returning to campus.
Applicants must explain how their projects will produce (1) improved social or environmental conditions and (2) insights that may be used to guide future work. Successful applicants are expected to select a Yale faculty adviser and to begin background work on their projects in consultation with their faculty adviser prior to the summer.
Awards of $4000 are given; additionally, awards will be supplemented by up to $4000 to cover expenses students request in the CIPE Summer Fellowships Common Application budget.
The fellowship will support climate change research in the United States or abroad. Projects that assist under-resourced or disadvantaged communities will receive special consideration. Academic excellence is required.
This fellowship is made possible by the generosity of Dean Takahashi (Yale '80, MPPM '83) and Wendy Sharp (Yale '82), with matching grant support from the Kresge Foundation.
Minimum duration:
8 weeks. Projects of shorter duration will not be considered. The proposed project must be a full-time commitment and be the primary activity for the duration of the fellowship.

Restrictions to Use of Award:
To satisfy the minimum duration requirements of the fellowship to which you are applying, your project must your sole activity, conducted without interruption, for the duration of the experience.
Please note that fellowship funds are meant to cover the costs of the proposed activity only. Budgets should not include compensation for lost income or funding towards the Student Income Contribution.
All interested applicants must review the

. Projects in specific countries within approved regions may not be eligible for funding based on current International SOS threat ratings, State Department Warnings, and the Yale University International Travel Policy.
Yale University policy requires that certain types of research projects involving human subjects be reviewed by an institutional review board (IRB) prior to the start of the study to ensure that the project meets University requirements and any applicable regulations.

Students applying to fellowships to support activities in or near their home towns may not be eligible to receive funding for certain budget items (e.g. housing). Please ask a fellowships adviser for more information.
