The Jehiel R. Elyachar Foundation Travel Fellowship supports undergraduate students at Yale pursuing summer research or independent study on topics related to Judaic Studies. The topics may include, but may not be limited to: Jewish History and Culture, Jewish communities around the world, or studies related to Israel. Proposals for topics researching anti-Semitism are not eligible.

The Jehiel R. Elyachar Foundation Travel Fellowship supports undergraduate students at Yale pursuing summer research or independent study on topics related to Judaic Studies. The topics may include, but may not be limited to: Jewish History and Culture, Jewish communities around the world, or studies related to Israel. Proposals for topics researching anti-Semitism are not eligible. All applicants must demonstrate how their projects are intellectually purposeful and aimed at increasing their knowledge in the area of Judaic Studies or studies related to Israel. The fellowship will support research abroad or in the United States.

All first years, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to apply. This fellowship is made possible through support from Leslie G. Fagen, Esq., Class of 1971, and the Jehiel R. Elyachar Foundation in honor of Jehiel R. and Jean R. Elyachar.

Minimum duration: 8 weeks. Projects of shorter duration will not be considered. The proposed project must be a full-time commitment and be the primary activity for the duration of the fellowship.

The Jehiel R. Elyachar Foundation Travel Fellowship is one of the CIPE Research Fellowships.

Special Eligibility Requirements:

Interested applicants may schedule an appointment with a Fellowship Adviser; however, meeting with an adviser is not mandatory.

Restrictions to Use of Award:

To satisfy the minimum duration requirements of the fellowship to which you are applying, your project must your sole activity, conducted without interruption, for the duration of the experience.

Please note that fellowship funds are meant to cover the costs of the proposed activity only. Budgets should not include compensation for lost income or funding towards the Student Income Contribution.

All interested applicants must review the Yale University International Travel Policy. Projects in specific countries within approved regions may not be eligible for funding based on current UnitedHealthcareGlobal threat ratings, State Department Warnings, and the Yale University International Travel Policy.

Yale University policy requires that certain types of research projects involving human subjects be reviewed by an institutional review board (IRB) prior to the start of the study to ensure that the project meets University requirements and any applicable regulations. Students applying to fellowships to support activities in or near their home towns may not be eligible to receive funding for certain budget items (e.g. housing). Please ask a fellowships adviser for more information.

International student applicants should inform the Office of International Students and Scholars of their plans to ensure they will be in compliance with the terms of their visa.
